Join the 1 For All First Amendment Challenge by May 1

Submit First Amendment lesson plans to the 1 For All First Amendment Challenge by May 1 to be considered for one of 40 $1,000 awards.

“We encourage every teacher and every school to enter,” said Le Anne Wiseman, director of the American Society of News Editors’ Youth Journalism Initiative. “We are excited to see the variety of creative ways teachers have involved their students as they educate them about the importance of the First Amendment.”

Examples of students projects submitted include filming a skit, creating a brochure, holding a poetry slam and making personal testimonials.

Teachers and schools simply provide First Amendment education and submit lessons plans and samples of student projects to enter. Teachers may enter as individuals or in groups. Judges will select 40 teacher/teacher group entries to receive $1,000, and 40 schools to receive a plaque. There are no restrictions on how the money can be spent.
