Twitter chat for journalism teachers offered biweekly

Standards-based grading will be the focus of a Twitter chat for journalism teachers on Sept. 25.

The discussion, known as #jerdchat, focuses on topics dealing with advising and teaching journalism and takes place every other Thursday from 8-9 p.m. EDT.

Journalism teachers Starr Sackstein and Lisa Snider are co-creators and co-moderators of the chats, which they started in March of 2013. Previous discussion topics have included teaching current events, managing staffs, implementing a beat system and building social media teams, among many others.

Participants are able to join the conversation by using the hashtag #jerdchat when tweeting. The discussion uses a Q&A format. Responses to Q1 should be labeled A1, for example.

Participants are discouraged from tweeting links to blog posts during the chats in order to prevent distractions, but are welcome to do so before or after the chats. Retweeting is also discouraged unless the #jerdchat hashtag is removed.

More information about upcoming chats and archived versions of previous chats can be found at jerdchat.wordpress.com.
