Join the News & Information Literacy Professional Learning Community

There is still plenty of time to become a member of the News and Information Literacy Professional Learning Community sponsored by the American Society of News Editors’ Youth Journalism Initiative. Participants do not need to have a background in news or information literacy, just a passion for current events and engaging with the news. The conversations and collaborations that take place within the community will be used to improve news and information literacy programs in schools across the country. There is no fee to participate or access resources.

“We wanted to create a space where teachers, students, journalists, researchers and developers could come together to learn and share resources about news and information literacy,” said Le Anne Wiseman, director of the American Society of News Editors’ Youth Journalism Initiative. “The online community will give this growing and vibrant group the opportunity to do just that. Everyone is welcome to join!”

Members will share lesson plans and tips; discuss news, information and media literacy topics; and contribute their own knowledge and ideas through an online platform. The conversations will be unstructured, allowing participants to talk about anything relating to this topic that interests them. The more members read and share what’s going on in the community, the better! Each person is a crucial part of helping the community and the importance of news and information literacy grow.
